The following tips should help you when your Jaguar needs service:

Be Prepared before you bring it in to Ken's Place

  • Read your Jaguar owner's manual to make sure you understand the various systems and components on your car.

  • Follow the manufacturer's recommended service schedules.

  • Make a record of each repair done on your Jaguar.

Not even Ken will know your Jaguar better than you do on a daily basis. You probably drive it every day and have a "feel" for the ride and the sound of the engine. Sometimes you just know when something is wrong. Trust your instincts.

Don't ignore the warning signs.

Inspect your Jaguar frequently looking for:

  • leaks, smoke, strange sounds, change in the way it rides, odors, drips, vibrations, warning lights and other gauge readings

  • changes in engine performance, acceleration, gas mileage, fluid levels

  • worn parts, especially tires, belts and hoses

  • handling problems, change in brakes, or steering

  • if you have an automatic transmission, does it shift smoothly?

  • any excessive engine surges between gear shifting

  • does the engine idle smoothly while in "park"?

  • does the engine "ping" or run on after the engine is turned off?

  • does the air conditioning and heating system work properly?

Make a note of any problems you find. Also, try to write down a few comments about any problems. For example:

  • when did it happen?

  • how long had you been driving? cold engine? hot?

  • is it a continual problem or intermittent?

  • does it happen at all speeds? only during braking? accelerating?

  • does it seem to be getting worse?

Ask Questions
Don't be afraid to ask questions about anything you don't understand, but please give Ken a chance to diagnose and carefully appraise the situation before pressing him for a course of action.

Take a look around the shop and read the signs about shop policies, labor rates, guarantees and methods of payment. Ask Ken about any of these things you don't understand.

Be sure to leave a phone number where you may be reached if questions arise about the repair work.
